Aviation in a sustainable world

Who we are

Climate change

Omega is a publicly funded partnership that offers impartial, innovative and topical insights into the environmental effects of the air transport industry and sustainability solutions.

Omega provides knowledge and tools and we act as a forum for debate and as a catalyst for action by the sector and policy makers - to address this increasingly urgent and high profile issue.

This landmark partnership brings together world-class experts from nine UK universities to develop a comprehensive ‘one stop shop’ of the latest information on the impact of aviation on the environment.

The Omega partnership draws upon the very best skills and expertise in the field; the multidisciplinary team includes experts in environmental and social sciences, technology, business, economics, environment, politics and global regulation.

Omega is led by Manchester Metropolitan University with Cambridge and Cranfield: other partners are Leeds, Loughborough, Oxford, Reading, Sheffield and Southampton.

Our academic partners have a well- established track record of supporting organisations on an individual, topic by topic basis. This initiative is taking a holistic and coordinated approach – building a coherent picture and progressively filling the knowledge gaps.

Omega is independent of the airlines, airport operators, aircraft and engine manufacturers and government. Its work is transparent and objective: it examines the issues without fear or favour.
